William Gomes is a composer and music theorist of the Twin Cities area probing the expressive power of music in various styles.  Gomes seeks the meaning of music through the lens of the classical liberal arts and the Christian tradition.


Gomes is currently working on an M.A. in music theory from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities School of Music

11/01/2023 Æternum premiers Domine Refugium combining medieval styles with punk rock

For the past two years, I have been in collaboration with Aeternum on their debut track Domine Refugium, a thirteen-minuet setting of Psalm 90 to drums, guitars, a violin, and female vocalists.  Read about it in an article from The Catholic Spirit.

01/24/2023 William Gomes to co-host the radio program Friday Favorites with Steve Staruch on February 3rd at 3:00pm

Through Classical MPR's Project DJ, I have been invited to co-host Friday Favorites.  Project DJ is an opportunity for young musicians between the ages of 14 and 24 to share their story and music on live radio.  My hour will include some of my story and will feature some of my original compositions.  Tune in to Your Classical MPR on 99.5 FM if you are in the Twin Cities area, or listen online at YourClassical from American Public Media and Minnesota Public Radio

09/07/2021 Gomes' Waltz to be performed by the Minnesota Sinfonia on February 18th and 19th, 2022

This past summer, I composed a symphonic waltz as a submission to the MN Sinfonia's annual Call for Scores competition.  Now, it is with great joy to say that my piece among four other submissions has been selected to be a part of the Sinfonia's program this season.  Listen to it on Friday February 18 at 7:00pm at the Metropolitan State University (Main Auditorium, 700 East 7th St, St. Paul, 55106) or on Saturday February 19 at 2:00pm at the Basilica of St. Mary (88 N 17th St, Minneapolis, MN 55403).  Admission is free!

I recently graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a BA in Music composition and a minor in Catholic StudiesAs the capstone of my major, I have produced a recital program of great magnitude and variety which demonstrates some of the best of my writing from my undergraduate year.  This recital was hosted live on Mother's Day, May 9th, 2021.  This recital is now viewable online.  Visit the page on my website to watch the feature presentation and more.

05/11/2021 Danza Americana to be performed by the Dakota Valley Symphony on March 6th, 2022

Through blessed and relatively recent connections, my piece, Danza Americana for string orchestra, has attracted the attention of Stephen Ramsey, director of the Dakota Valley Symphony.  It will now be featured in their concert: String Works with Christopher Kachian on Sunday, March 6th, 2022 at 2:00pm the Black Box Theater at the Ames Center in Burnsville MN.  I am very grateful for this opportunity for my music to be shared, and I happily invite you to come hear my music and other wonderful performances from Dakota Valley Symphony on this day.
