2021 Virtual Recital Acknowledgements
Here's a big THANK YOU to everyone involved in the production of this recital.
My heart is filled with gratitude for all of those whose time, effort, talent, willingness, patience, expertise, guidance, privileges, permission, appeals, money, and sacrifices came into staging a grand recital in the midst of a global pandemic. It was only by the grace which came through them that any of this production was possible.
From the depths of my soul, thank you and may God bless you all the days of your life and then some!
Thank you to my mentor Dr. Josh Bauder for having guided me in the act of listening, analysis, composing, orchestrating, and typography. Thank you to Jay Allen for mentoring me in the spring of my freshman year. Thank you also to Fr. Michael Joncas for your wisdom and counsel in the world of writing liturgical music. Thank you to Dr. James Callahan, Dr. Matthew George, and Matthew Abernathy for your guidance and feedback on my compositions. Thank you to Luke Gion for your companionship and inspiration in my compositional and spiritual development.
Thank you to Drew Remick and Dr. Jessica Park for the permission to rehearse in the Iverson Center for Faith and to record Y Dice el Pastorcico and the Gloria in the chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas. The chapel is the architectural crown jewel of this campus, a building of incredible aesthetic and acoustic quality, a dignified house of God. Thank you also to The Basilica of Saint Mary and her staff, especially Travis Salisbury, Johan Van Parys, and Mae Desaire who permitted and made it possible for us to record the Magnificat in the Basilica. What an extraordinary privilege to be in that space and prayerfully perform a work in honor of Mother Mary, to Whom the Basilica herself also gives honor. It was a true blessing to record these sacred works in these sacred spaces.
Thank you to Dr. Jessica Park for her gracious participation and organ playing in Y Dice el Pastorcico. It is always a joy to hear you play, and it was a special joy to hear my composition in your hands on such an incredible organ. Thank you to all the choristers who volunteered to be part of this project. Thank you to Dr. Irene Domingo for teaching us how to pronounce the lyrics in Castilian Spanish. Thank you also to Scott Knight for taking professional photographs of our dress rehearsal. Thank you to Xander Moser for helping us record this piece. Thank you to my sister, Anna Marie Gomes, for directing the videography and for editing the project. I truly appreciate the effort you put in on the side to produce the video.
Thank you to David Carrillo Siliezar for taking on the Danza Americana project with enthusiasm and recruiting the other members of the quintet to participate in the project. Thanks to you, Elizabeth Bergmann, Niloofar Sohi, CJ Point, and Logan Rollag for bringing this piece life with such a vibrant tone and professional quality. Thank you to Dr. Rafael Rodriguez for advising me with the project and connecting me with David. Thank you, of course, to Jeffery Levine, my high school orchestra director, whom this piece is dedicated to, for being of great support to me and an inspiration to me in my high school career.
Thank you to everyone involved in the Gloria project. It was incredible to have it pulled off so well in such a short amount of time. Thank you to all the singers and musicians who worked with such a dense rehearsal schedule this past February. Thank you to Nathan Kuhlman and Peter Henkhaus for bringing an extra pair of hands on the set. Thank you to Nate Iliff and Michael Johnson for teaching me about cleaning up digital audio. It came as a lifesaver to me.
Thank you to Caroline Nelson for all of your magnificent performance of my Magnificat: for your musical ability and for inviting the persona of Mary into your performance.
Thank you to Peter Schulz for thoroughly mentoring me about the bass clarinet and for performing my pieces. It was a joy to work on them and to hear them played by you.
Thank you to student Joseph Ortiz for making such an exceptional effort to record and edit the footage for two these video projects. Joseph has poured more heart, effort, and labor into this recital than any other student I worked with to produce it. You are truly a godsend. Thank you also to Tianzhi Chen, Joe Sladek, and to Teresa (Hannasch) Gomes for your technical support, equipment, effort, and enthusiasm in producing these videos.
Thank you to Jaclyn Schwartz for your months of patience and coordination to make it possible to host the recital in the Anderson Student Center's Woulfe Hall and for granting me all the resources I needed in order to complete this work. No other faculty has given me so much assistance as you have, and none of it would have been possible without you.
Thank you to my parents Jerry and Suzanne Gomes for your all-around love and aid in putting together this recital. It meant so much to me to have your financial support, equipment, your hands at the camera, your help organizing these events, and being hospitable to any and all of the people involved in this recital. Thank you for raising me well and encouraging me in whatever my heart has longed to give itself to in order to glorify God.
Thank you to the Holy Family for Your prayers, protection, and guidance.
